Below is a quick summary of the procedure used to retrieve your reports directly via your modem. This assumes that you have the IMVS software setup on your computer, and the IMVS has begun transmitting results.

If your computer dials into the IMVS:

  1. Run the IMVS dialing program.
  2. Wait for results to be downloaded.
  3. Optionally instruct your medical software to check for new reports.
If the IMVS dials into your computer:
  1. Ensure that the IMVS program is loaded and waiting to receive calls.
  2. Wait for results to be downloaded.
  3. Optionally instruct your medical software to check for new reports.

If your computer dials into the IMVS:

Step 1. Run the IMVS dialing program.

This is normally done by double clicking on the 'Dial IMVS' icon. If you are running Windows 95/NT 4.x, this would by default be created on your Windows desktop. Otherwise it would be available from the "Start Menu", "Programs", "IMVS Reports by Modem" menu item. For Windows 3.x users, this would be found in the "IMVS Reports by Modem" group in the Program Manager.

When run, the program will launch minimised and dial into the IMVS and check to see if any new results are waiting for you.
Step 2. Wait for results to be downloaded.
If there are new results waiting, these will be downloaded to your computer automatically and saved to a location (specified during the setup) on your computer.
Step 3. Optionally instruct your medical software to check for new reports.
If you are using a third party medical software package to view the results, you will now need to instruct it to check for new results. Depending on the software, in some cases this step can be automated.

In Medical Director for example, you could press the 'F4' shortcut key to check for new investigation results.

If the IMVS dials into your computer:

Step 1. Ensure that the IMVS program is loaded and waiting to receive calls.

The setup program will normally include the IMVS program in the "Startup" group which means that it will be loaded automatically when you start your computer. When loaded, the program will be minimised at the bottom of the screen. Windows 95/NT 4.x users should see this in the Taskbar, while Windows 3.x users will find it as an icon at the bottom of the screen

When a call comes in from the IMVS, this program will answer the phone and begin communications with the IMVS.
