The Molecular Pathology Unit facilitates the diagnostic applications
of nucleic acid-based technology. Its major functions are to:
- Consolidate a range of DNA-based tests for inherited genetic
disorders.
- Develop DNA-based tests for the mutations that predispose
individuals to familial cancer: initially breast and colon cancer.
- Establish a commercial parentage testing service in conjunction
with Medvet Science Pty Ltd.
- Establish a DNA sequencing service for the IMVS and Hanson
Centre.
- Assist and encourage other sections of the IMVS to embark
on DNA-based testing.
- Engage in applied research into human genetic disease.
