Regional Services

IMVS Pathology provides pathology testing throughout regional and near-metro South Australia, in the disciplines of haematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, blood transfusion and haemostasis, in laboratories located at:

• Murray Bridge
• Mount Gambier
• Port Augusta
• Port Lincoln
• Port Pirie
• Victor Harbor
• Wallaroo
• Whyalla

One of the main functions of our laboratories in these towns is performing pathology testing for the public hospitals 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Each laboratory also performs pathology testing for private practitioners, thus supporting the healthcare needs of the whole regional community of South Australia.

We employ approximately 140 South Australians within these regional locations, including operational and administrative services officers, health ancillary workers, technical officers and medical scientists.

Specimen collection services are provided at each regional laboratory and at 11 additional patient collection centres supporting these laboratories. We also provide extensive courier services and air-based specimen transport for these towns and surrounding areas.

Supervision is provided by pathologists and scientists based at our larger metropolitan laboratories in Adelaide. Each laboratory is NATA/RCPA accredited and ISO certified and is well-equipped, employing the latest technology to enable us to perform the increasing number of test requests we receive. Tests not offered on-site are rapidly transported to metropolitan laboratories, which are able to provide a rapid turn-around service to requesting medical practitioners.

The regional laboratories manage an extensive network of Point of Care Testing (PoCT) services in country hospitals and doctors’ surgeries. These PoCT services are all NATA-accredited and perform to the same high standards as expected from our in-house pathology testing.

The Regional network is proud to continue to provide a first class pathology service to the regional and remote areas of South Australia, and to contribute in a positive way to the health care needs of rural communities.
